MISSION

Oh yes, my house of worship
will be known as a house of prayer
for all people, the decree of the master,
God Himself, who gathers in the exiles of Israel;
“I will gather other also,
gather them in with those already gathered…”

Isaiah 56:7-8 MSG

WE SEEK TO BECOME A HOUSE OF PRAYER THAT IS FOR ALL PEOPLE.

The two areas of emphasized in this statement are “a house of prayer” and “for all people” — these parallel the two great things Jesus called His disciples to do:

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
– Matthew 22:37-39

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
– Matthew 28:19-20

A House of Prayer

WORSHIP & PRESENCE. We seek to enable people to live in the tangible presence of God daily through a culture of prayer and worship.

COUNTER FORMATION. We move from being disciples of our culture to disciples of Jesus through:

TEACHING. We seek to have our mind renewed by the Gospel – where our mental maps of reality (i.e., how we think about money, sex, gender, relationships, work and vocation, all of life) are shaped by the Scriptures and not by the broader world.

COMMUNITY. We seek to cultivate deep and lasting relationships of trust, vulnerability, and commitment. We change and become more like Christ through stable relationships with fellow Christians who gently name the sin in our life, encourage us through it, and celebrate the work God is doing in us with us.

RHYTHMS OF LIFE. We need help to initially set on our minds on the things of the Spirit and not on the flesh.
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires – Romans 8:5

For All People

PERSONAL & GLOBAL WITNESS. We must seek to equip people to share the Gospel of the Kingdom to both their next door neighbor and to the world. We want to help people be both witnesses across the street and to the ends of the world.

FAITH & WORK. We spend most of our day working in the world – and our work bears witness to the kingdom we ultimately believe in. We want to intentionally help people connect their faith and work, that their life is one of sacrificial mission in whatever vocational work God calls them to.

MERCY & JUSTICE. Jesus specially announced that He has good news for the poor. The Gospel is a Jubilee, a releasing of debts (forgiveness of sins) that has economic realities for the poor. Through our lifestyles of generosity, we seek to be people who are an advocate for the poor, caring for their needs interpersonally, and seeking to help make Northwest Indiana and beyond a more just place.
